What is STEM?

STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and math. Rather than teach the four disciplines as separate and distinct subjects, STEM integrates them into a cohesive learning paradigm based on real-world applications.

STEM education creates critical thinkers, increases science literacy, and enables the next generation of innovators.

Activity

Choose one activity to complete with your program.

Action

Take pictures of your program completing the challenge.
Submit a photo on social media by using the tag #CASECHALLENGE or email it to caseforkids@hcde-texas.org by the 30th of the current challenge month.

Accomplishments

One winner will be randomly selected from all entries received.
If your submission wins, your program will receive an item of your choosing from our collection of prizes.

Recycle Rally is a free recycling program for K-12 schools throughout the U.S, The program is designed to help students to become lifelong recyclers by equipping, educating, and inspiring them to get directly involved with recycling. The program offers dozens of free resources that can help you reach your school's recycling goals.

Ranger Rick Photo Contest

Open to students under age 13 with parental permission

Submit best original nature photos.

Best Shot winners receive certificate of recognition and copies of magazine with their photo.

This contest is ongoing with no entry deadline so you can enter your photos at any time. Every month winners will be selected by the judges and posted in the Recent Contest Winners slideshow on the contest home page.

ASHG DNA Day Essay Contest

What is the ASHG DNA Day Essay Contest?

It is a contest open to high school students around the world. Each year, students are asked to examine, question, and reflect on an important topic in genetics by writing a 750-word essay. Human genetics experts evaluate each submission and may even provide feedback to help you improve. Submission is free, and there is a chance to win up to $1,000!

ASHG DNA Day Essay Contest Information:

• Prizes: Three winners will receive up to $1,000 and a matching lab equipment grant; 10 honorable mentions will win $100 each. All winners and honorable mentions are announced on the Essay Contest website, ASHG’s social media platforms, and in their local media outlets.

• Eligibility: All high school students

• Submission Cost: FREE

NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing

Calling All 9th - 12th Grade Students with Aspirations to Change the World with Technology! The NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing Applications is open from September 1st To November 5th. The NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing (AiC) honors 9th-12th grade women, genderqueer, or non-binary students for their computing-related achievements and interests, and encourages them to pursue their passions. Award recipients are selected based on their aptitude and aspirations in technology and computing, as demonstrated by their computing experience, computing-related activities, leadership experience, tenacity in the face of barriers to access, and plans for post-secondary education. Since 2007, more than 17,000 students have received an Award for AiC.

Nuclear Power Institute’s Nuclear Science Week Student Competition: “Think Clean. Think Solutions. Think Nuclear.”

Nuclear Science Week (NSW) is an international, broadly observed week-long celebration to
focus local, regional, national, and international interest on all aspects of nuclear science. NSW
takes place each year in the third week of October, and each day of NSW provides for learning
about the contributions, innovations, and opportunities that can be found by exploring nuclear
science.

During the week, educators, students, employers, and the community participate in national
recognition of how nuclear science plays a vital role in the lives of Americans – and the world.
Activities during the week are intended to build awareness of the contributions of the nuclear
science industry and those who work in it every day.
