Summer Learning Week: July 6–10, 2026

Each summer, we look for opportunities to keep youth continuously engaged in learning, which cultivates and expands their natural curiosities. The National Summer Learning Association (NSLA) is a national non-profit organization focused on the powerful impact of one achievable goal: investing in summer learning to help close the achievement gap. NSLA uses the power of research, advocacy, training, and policy to transform America's neighborhoods and communities, one child at a time.

National Summer Learning Week is a celebration dedicated to elevating the importance of summer learning! Let's work together to keep kids safe and healthy every summer and ensure they return to school ready to succeed! Promote and advocate for summer learning on social media using the hashtags #Summerlearningweek #CASEforKids #MakingAfterschoolCool.

CASE for Kids Highlights Summertime Programming to Celebrate National Summer Learning Week

Harris County Department of Education’s (HCDE) Center for Afterschool, Summer and Enrichment (CASE) for Kids is showcasing a number of partner organizations and initiatives to help celebrate National Summer Learning Week. The week – to be held July 6-10, 2026 – is organized by the National Summer Learning Association and showcases the importance of summer learning and keeping students engaged, safe and healthy between school years.

Programs are through County Connections Youth Summer Initiative, a five-year interlocal agreement between the Harris County Commissioners and HCDE totaling $7.1 million. Funds are administered to programs vetted by CASE for Kids. This summer marks the final year of the five-year agreement.
Families and educators are encouraged to start or participate in Summer Learning Challenges during the week. These fun events and interactive activities set fun goals for students to keep their brains active while enjoying the summer months.
